Vancouver Island Short Film Festival Unveils 2017 Selection Committee

The five-member Selection Committee for the 12th annual Vancouver Island Short Film Festival has a monumental task at hand. With over 70 films already submitted and more rolling in every day, VISFF is on track to receive the most submissions in its 12-year history, including a record number of international films.

“I can’t wait to delve into the eight-plus straight hours of short films,” says Reb Stevenson, co-creator of Pancake Manor, a wildly-popular series of puppet-infused pop music videos for kids that boasts half a billion YouTube views. “I have popped a lot of popcorn in advance!”

The Vancouver Island Short Film Festival is now accepting entries for it’s 12th year. The Festival will take place February 10 & 11, 2017 at the Malaspina Theatre at Vancouver Island University. Films can be submitted on our homepage through the FilmFreeway link. For rules and regulations see the Selection and Judging Committee Policy.

The early-bird entry fee is now in effect. Enter now and until October 12th pay only $25 per entry!

Entries remain FREE for local filmmakers. Films must be submitted in person at the Nanaimo Arts Council office or by contacting More information coming soon!

Film submissions for local filmmakers

We are pleased to continue the fee waiver program for local filmmakers who will not be charged for submitting a film! Local filmmakers that wish to take advantage of the fee waiver program will be required to personally drop off their film (on DVD) and a completed entry form to the Nanaimo North Town Centre administration office in Nanaimo located at 4750 Rutherford Road. Entry forms are available online and at the Nanaimo Arts Council office.

All submissions must be made by November 1st 2015 to be considered. The VISFF is a juried show and the list of films to be shown at the Festival on February 12th and 13th will be announced January 1st. All entries must be made online or in person, we no longer except any submissions by mail.
