Vancouver Island Short Film Festival Launching New Pitch-A-Flick Contest
NEWS   |   December 1, 2016

Young filmmakers from across Vancouver Island are invited to submit a short film pitch for a shot at $1000 and a mentorship with one of Nanaimo`s premier film production studios!

The Vancouver Island Short Film Festival is launching the Pitch-A-Flick Short Film Pitch Contest in partnership with Knight Studio Productions. It`s a chance for the next generation of aspiring Vancouver Island filmmakers to win $1000 to fund the production of a short film and a project-long mentorship with Nanaimo filmmaker Raymond Knight. Organizers hope to assist the contest winner in turning their cinematic vision into an on-screen reality.
“Our goal is to inspire and empower young filmmakers,” said VISFF Director Karla Duarte. “By offering the chance to win production funding and a mentorship with an established filmmaker, we hope to spur the creation of a short film we can ultimately screen at the festival. But more importantly, we want to give a budding filmmaker the resources and support they need to follow their dreams and succeed.”

To enter, applicants 25 years or younger must submit a one-minute pitch video and script by February 1st, 2017. All film genres and formats will be considered, and the completed film must not exceed 12 minutes, including credits. Full rules and regulations can be found online at www.VISFF.com.

The winning film pitch will be screened at the VISFF matinee on February 11, 2017 and the completed film will automatically be entered into consideration for next year`s festival.

The 12th annual VISFF takes place February 10 and 11, 2017 at Vancouver Island University’s Malaspina Theatre. Tickets for this year’s festival are already on sale at the Port Theatre and online.
